    RO membrane: benefits

Reverse osmosis membranes are the most important elements of the water filtration process. They remove heavy metals, bacteria and viruses.

Several sizes are available depending on your daily water consumption.

Role of the reverse osmosis membrane

The reverse osmosis membrane is made of TFC (Thin-Film Composite) polyamide and is the most advanced stage of water filtration. It removes heavy metals, bacteria and viruses. The pores of a reverse osmosis membrane are so small that they only let water molecules (H2O) through. The 3 pre-filters are only there to make the membrane's job easier by trapping the largest particles. They thus help extend its life.

Want to learn more about how reverse osmosis works? Watch our video explaining in detail what reverse osmosis filtration is.

    RO membrane maintenance

A reverse osmosis membrane should be replaced every two years on average. If your RO system has an LCD screen, it will tell you when it needs to be replaced. Otherwise, you will notice a drop in flow rate, which means the membrane is clogged. Replacement takes just one minute.

Maximize your savings by buying maintenance kits for 2, 4 or 6 years.

The different types of RO membranes

There are different types of membranes, and it is important to know which one is best suited to your RO system.

At Josmose, you will find a variety of low-priced reverse osmosis membranes. We offer several sizes and several brands (Ultimos, Optimos, industrial RO system membranes…) depending on your needs.

"Standard" membrane for home RO systems

These membranes are available in 75, 100, 150 and 300 GPD. They fit into the membrane housing designed for them and are relatively easy to replace. The advantage of this type of membrane is that it is fairly generic and therefore easy to find.

    Filmtec membrane

Filmtec membranes are made by DOW, which supplies NASA for its space missions so that astronauts have water. These membranes are reputed to be the best in the world, which is why we offer and recommend them.

    Benefits of Filmtec membranes

    - High salt rejection

    - High resistance to hard water

    - Stable performance even with a variable water source

These RO membranes offer optimal resistance to hard water and stable performance, whatever the water source.

    Bayonet membrane

Designed specifically for the Rapid'eau, the Ultimos and the RO water dispenser, these membranes come pre-installed in bayonet cartridges that can be replaced very easily, in a single click. Bayonet membranes are available from 50 GPD.

  • Remineralization

    Remineralization of RO water

After going through a reverse osmosis system, water is extremely pure... sometimes too pure! This process removes pollutants and the minerals naturally present in water alike. To restore a better balance to the water, improve its taste, and provide certain essential minerals, we recommend adding a remineralization step.

    What is water remineralization?

Water remineralization consists of reintroducing certain minerals (calcium, magnesium, potassium, etc.) into water purified by reverse osmosis.
This step isn’t essential for drinking safety, but it offers several benefits:

    • Improve the taste of the water, making it more pleasant to drink
    • Support mineral balance for the body.
    • Protect some equipment and plumbing (completely demineralized water can be slightly corrosive).

    Remineralization cartridges for RO systems

Our remineralization cartridges are designed to be installed in addition to your home RO system.

They work simply: the RO water flows through a mineral medium (for example calcite, Corosex, or natural mineral stones) that gradually releases minerals into the water.

Result: pure water, but with an ideal mineral balance for everyday drinking.

    Why add a remineralization cartridge?

    • Health & Wellness: calcium and magnesium intake contributes to the proper functioning of the body.
    • Better taste: RO water that hasn't been remineralized can taste "flat"
    • Customization: some filters adjust the pH and make it possible to get more alkaline water.

    Our remineralization solutions

Discover our solutions for enjoying RO water every day. The first option: add a remineralization cartridge to your home RO system (excluding RO water dispensers)

Otherwise, we have a home RO system with a built-in remineralization system: Mineros

Remineralization cartridges for home RO systems

Our remineralization cartridges are designed to be installed in addition to your home RO system. They work simply: the RO water flows through a mineral medium that gradually releases minerals into the water.

RO System Consumables

Cartridges, filters, membranes, and maintenance kits

To keep your water quality high and your installation running properly, it is essential to regularly replace your RO system consumables.

Pre-filters, activated carbon cartridges, reverse osmosis membranes, or post-filters: each component plays a specific role in the filtration process.

Why replace consumables?

Preserve your RO system's performance

Over time, the filter elements become clogged with impurities and gradually lose efficiency. Replacing them preserves the filtration quality of the installation.

  • Maintain effective filtration
  • Protect the reverse osmosis membrane
  • Preserve the taste and quality of the water
  • Maintain the performance and flow rate of the unit

The different RO system consumables

Each filtration stage has its role

Sediment pre-filters

They trap particles in the water such as sand, rust, and suspended matter.

Activated carbon filters

Activated carbon helps reduce chlorine and certain organic compounds before the water passes through the membrane.

Reverse osmosis membranes

The core component of the RO system, the membrane provides extremely fine filtration of dissolved substances in the water.

Post-filters and complementary cartridges

Placed after the membrane, they complete the water treatment or improve its taste, depending on the system.

When should you replace filters and membranes?

Intervals that depend on your installation

The service life of consumables depends in particular on water quality, your usage, and the RO system model. As a guideline:

Pre-filters

Approximately 6 to 12 months

Combined cartridges

Approximately 12 to 24 months

Reverse osmosis membrane

Approximately 2 to 4 years

These durations are approximate. Always follow the maintenance recommendations for your RO system model first.

Cartridges, membranes, or complete kits?

Choose based on your maintenance needs

Individual cartridges: ideal for replacing only the filter that has reached the end of its life.

Membranes: replace when filtration performance declines or as recommended by the manufacturer.

Maintenance kits: a convenient solution to have the main consumables needed for periodic maintenance of your RO system.

Discover Our RO System Consumables for Easy Maintenance

Josmose.fr offers RO system consumables that make maintaining your RO system easier. Our RO system consumables come as RO system maintenance kits that combine a PFAS and residue filter with an RO membrane, helping you save every day.

Properly Maintaining Your RO System

Depending on your RO system, whether it is a budget model, designer model, high-flow model or very high-flow model, you will find consumables in several formats. Filters, bayonet filter cartridges, threaded filter cartridges, membranes and maintenance products.

As you use your home or professional RO system, various particles accumulate on the membrane surface and can eventually clog it, requiring early replacement. On most OJA RO systems, membrane flushing is automatic, so you do not have to worry about it.

Most of our RO systems need 5 types of consumables to perform their primary function: producing pure filtered water. It is therefore only natural that josmose.fr offers a selection of products to help you maintain your new RO system!

RO System Filter Cartridges, Filters, and Membranes for PFAS

Protect your health and your family's health with our RO system filters and membranes specifically designed to remove PFAS, also known as “forever chemicals.” These chemical compounds are highly persistent in the environment and may be found in tap water. Our high-performance reverse osmosis membranes retain up to 99% of contaminants, including PFAS, heavy metals, nitrates, and pharmaceutical residues.

Types of RO System Consumables

- PP (polypropylene) filter: replace every 6 months on average

- GAC and CTO activated carbon filters: replace every year

- Reverse osmosis membrane: replace only every 2 years

- Post-membrane filter cartridge: replace every 1 to 2 years if your RO system has a tank.

To find out when to change your filters, feel free to test your water with a TDS tester! Want to save on maintaining your RO system? Save time and money with our maintenance kits.

When Should You Replace Your Remineralization Filter Cartridge?

If your RO system has a remineralization filter cartridge that increases the mineral content of your RO water, you will need to replace your filter cartridge after a certain amount of time. It is customary to replace this filter cartridge at the same time as the post-membrane filter cartridge, meaning every 1 to 2 years.

What Are RO System Consumables?

A reverse osmosis system, whether an industrial RO system or a home model, consists of several parts. Some are removable and must be replaced as you use the RO system to ensure quality RO water is available at all times. These are RO system consumables. Read on to discover what this type of RO system accessory consists of and when to replace these parts so your unit works properly.

Accessories to Optimize Your RO System's Performance

The primary purpose of an RO system consumable is to ensure proper operation and maintenance of your RO system. To produce pure filtered water, the system removes all impurities and bacteria from the water. However, the removed particles can accumulate on the surface of membranes and filters and eventually clog them.

In addition to flushing, which is automatic on various RO system models, replacing consumables and using RO system maintenance kits are necessary to optimize your unit's performance. Rest assured, consumables are available in several formats at Josmose.fr, depending on your RO system model.

Various Types of RO System Consumables for Regular Maintenance

Whether your designer RO system is intended for home or professional use, regular maintenance is essential. This is why RO system accessories and consumables are important. These include:

  • filters
  • reverse osmosis membranes
  • bayonet filter cartridges
  • threaded filter cartridges
  • remineralization filter cartridge
  • maintenance chemicals

How Often Should You Replace Your RO System's Consumables?

To keep your RO system performing well at all times, you need to make sure its consumables fulfill their functions and deliver optimal results. You must therefore replace your RO system consumables regularly.

A PP (polypropylene) filter should be replaced every 6 months on average. Activated carbon filters should be replaced every year. The reverse osmosis membrane should be replaced every 2 years. And for an RO system with a tank, remember to replace the post-membrane filter cartridge every year or every 2 years. This interval also applies to the remineralization filter cartridge.

You should also keep in mind that how often you replace your RO system consumables depends on how long and how frequently you use the unit. A unit that runs 24/7 will need more maintenance than one that does not run continuously.

Where Can You Find Affordable, Quality RO System Consumables?

At Josmose, you will find all the maintenance kits and consumables needed to maintain your RO system, prevent particle buildup, ensure an optimal flow rate, and provide quality purified water.

We offer a wide selection of products at attractive prices to keep your RO system running properly and help it conserve water. Choosing our maintenance kits can also help you save money.
