Role of the RO membrane

The RO membrane is made of TFC (Thin-Film Composite) polyamide and provides the most advanced stage of water filtration. It removes heavy metals, bacteria, and viruses. The pores of an RO membrane are so small that only water molecules (H2O) can pass through. The 3 pre-filters simply help the membrane do its job by trapping larger particles. This helps extend its life.

Capacity

With a 75GPD (Gallons Per Day) membrane, your reverse osmosis system produces up to 284 liters of pure water per day. Converted to a per-minute flow rate, this is 19cl; a small amount when you need to fill a pitcher of water. That is why systems using this membrane are equipped with an external tank. Its capacity is 11L.

If you want to increase your RO system's production capacity (see all the uses for RO water here), we recommend choosing a 100GPD membrane or even a 150GPD membrane to double its capacity. All 3 membrane models are interchangeable. The system was designed for this.

The 300GPD membrane is intended exclusively for use in a RO system with direct flow, such as our DirectOs.

Maintenance

An RO membrane should be replaced every two years on average. If your RO system has an LCD screen, it will tell you when replacement is needed. Otherwise, you will notice a decrease in flow rate indicating that the membrane is clogged. Replacement takes just one minute, timed by the clock.
