Remineralization
Remineralization of RO water
After going through a reverse osmosis system, water is extremely pure... sometimes too pure! This process removes pollutants and the minerals naturally present in water alike. To restore a better balance to the water, improve its taste, and provide certain essential minerals, we recommend adding a remineralization step.
What is water remineralization?
Water remineralization consists of reintroducing certain minerals (calcium, magnesium, potassium, etc.) into water purified by reverse osmosis.
This step isn’t essential for drinking safety, but it offers several benefits:
- Improve the taste of the water, making it more pleasant to drink
- Support mineral balance for the body.
- Protect some equipment and plumbing (completely demineralized water can be slightly corrosive).
Remineralization cartridges for RO systems
Our remineralization cartridges are designed to be installed in addition to your home RO system.
They work simply: the RO water flows through a mineral medium (for example calcite, Corosex, or natural mineral stones) that gradually releases minerals into the water.
Result: pure water, but with an ideal mineral balance for everyday drinking.
Why add a remineralization cartridge?
- Health & Wellness: calcium and magnesium intake contributes to the proper functioning of the body.
- Better taste: RO water that hasn't been remineralized can taste "flat"
- Customization: some filters adjust the pH and make it possible to get more alkaline water.

The role of water in your body
Introducing our report "Choosing Your Drinking Water Wisely". You can download this report from our website.
Known as "Mr. Water" in France, Professor Marc Henry is an academic expert on water who seeks to understand its physical, chemical, and biological aspects in relation to quantum physics.
Your body is a veritable swimming pool, since 65% to 70% of it is water, or 45 liters for a person weighing 70 kg! As for your brain, it is surprising that it does not "slosh around" more, since it is 80% water!
But your personal swimming pool leaks… because water in the human body has an unfortunate tendency to escape: sweating, urination, and breathing are the main sources of water loss in the human body, which needs continuous rehydration. Your body loses about 2.5 liters of water per day, and much more if you are athletic, tall, live in a very hot environment, or are stressed… there are many reasons for losing water, and they vary from person to person.
This explains the importance of drinking water, and of course, good water, our guiding principle at Josmose.fr! All specialists recommend drinking a minimum of around 1.5 liters of water per day to stay healthy. They also advise you not to wait until you are thirsty to drink, because thirst is the first sign of dehydration.
Your food generally supplies your body with about 0.7 liters of water (with a healthy, varied diet). Your body produces another 0.3 liters of water itself. Added to the 1.5 liters you drink throughout the day, this just makes up for the water your metabolism loses… So grab your reusable bottles, water bottles, and faucets: drink up!
Water also cleans your body, and this is actually its main role. Inside your body, it drains and transports the substances that make up your body. It also hydrates your cells, which would otherwise become as dry as an old apricot. It also keeps the moist areas of your body supplied: your mouth with saliva, your eyes, your skin, and your joints.
Finally, water is a valuable filter, since, together with your kidneys, it removes impurities and waste from your body in the form of urine. It also aids digestion. In short, it is essential!
As you age, the amount of water in your body decreases because your muscle mass decreases.
While water accounts for 74% of a newborn's body weight, this drops to 50% for men and 47% for women from age 50 onward.
Lean people also have a higher proportion of water in their bodies than heavier people. This is simply because muscle (or lean mass) contains 73 to 75% water, whereas fat (or adipose tissue) contains only about 30%.
Why remineralize your RO water?
There is confusion among the general public between distilled water (dead water, with no minerals at all) and RO water, which has a very low mineral content (between 10 and 50 ppm). This confusion is widely spread by the WHO (World Health Organization).
Let us be clear. Drinking water at 0 ppm is bad for your health, whereas drinking water at 20 ppm is ideal. As evidence, doctors advise older adults and infants to drink water such as Mont Roucous or Rosée de la Reine, "premium" water characterized by its low mineral content.
A reverse osmosis system can produce water of this quality. Is it then better to drink water at 20 ppm than at 70 ppm? It is a matter of beliefs, fears, and taste!
Most of our reverse osmosis systems produce water with particle levels between 20 and 40 ppm. Below, we explain the 2 solutions available to increase the mineral content of your RO water.
How can you remineralize your RO water?
The 2 solutions available use the same method but differ in the amount of particles added. Both solutions involve adding a remineralization filter cartridge at the outlet of your RO system.
Water leaves your RO system through tubing, traditionally blue, and continues on to the RO water faucet. The solution is to cut this tubing and insert a remineralization filter cartridge.
2 filter cartridges are available to you:
- Mineralstone filter cartridge: this remineralization filter cartridge contains maifanite, or "health stone." This rock has a structure similar to granite and is composed of calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, zinc, iodine, iron, selenium, copper, strontium, and metasilicate. It adds 5 mg/l of minerals to your water.
- Aquacalcium filter cartridge: this remineralization filter cartridge contains calcite, which enriches RO water with an element essential to the human body (calcium), as well as many other minerals. It adds up to 50 mg/l of minerals to your water.
Choosing one of these remineralization filter cartridges therefore means choosing the mineral level you want in your water.
How do you install the remineralization filter cartridge?
As explained above, the filter cartridge connects in series at the RO water outlet. It is simple!
And once you have installed your remineralization filter cartridge on your RO system, you have no more excuses for not drinking the amount of water you need for (good) health!
