Why Is My RO System Producing Less Water?

Is your RO system producing less and less pure water? Don't panic!

At josmose.fr, all our energy goes into complete customer satisfaction, both during the purchase process and, ABOVE ALL, AFTERWARD: during installation and throughout the life of our products. These aren't empty words, and our customers confirm this on our Facebook page!

So, if you encounter even the slightest technical problem, call us or send us an email explaining the situation. Together, we'll find a solution with a positive attitude.

Diagnosing your RO system

The first thing to do when you notice a drop in your RO system's purified water flow rate is to measure the wastewater flow rate through its red tubing.
You can disconnect the tubing from the drain trap, let the water flow for 1 minute, then measure the volume collected.
Depending on the result, there are several possible scenarios...

If your RO system's drain flow rate is high...

If you notice a wastewater flow rate higher than normal (40 to 80 cl for a tank-based model, 1.5 to 2 liters for a direct-flow model), block the red tubing with your finger and open the faucet to see whether the pure water flow rate increases briefly. If it does, the drain flow restrictor is faulty. This is a small metal part that is very easy to replace.

If your RO system's drain flow rate is low...

If you notice a wastewater flow rate much lower than normal, it means water is not reaching one of these points properly:
- the PP filter => Water inlet valve closed or almost closed => Open the valve
- the GAC filter => Clogged PP filter => Replace the PP filter
- the CTO filter => Clogged GAC filter => Replace the GAC filter
- the pump => Clogged CTO filter => Replace the CTO filter
- the drain => Stuck drain solenoid valve => Replace the solenoid valve

If your RO system's drain flow rate is normal...

If you notice a normal wastewater flow rate, it means water is not reaching another point properly:
- the membrane => Faulty pump => Replace the pump
- the solenoid valve => Clogged membrane => Replace the membrane
- the faucet => Stuck check valve => Replace the check valve

These problems are extremely rare if you follow your RO system's maintenance instructions. Nevertheless, they can occur. That's why we encourage you to diagnose your RO system and take the opportunity to photograph or film any parts or behavior you have even the slightest doubts about. This will allow us to assist you more effectively.
