Calcium Hardness of Water - Laboratory Analysis
Laboratory Water Analysis Options
What is calcium hardness?
Calcium hardness refers to the concentration of dissolved calcium in water, mainly in the form of calcium ions (Ca²⁺). It is part of total water hardness, which also includes magnesium ions.
Calcium hardness is important because it affects water quality and how water interacts with surfaces and equipment.
In drinking water, moderate hardness is often preferred to prevent pipe corrosion (if the water is too soft) and scale buildup (if the water is too hard).
For swimming pools, maintaining calcium hardness between 200 and 400 ppm is crucial to prevent equipment corrosion and the formation of limescale deposits. Proper calcium hardness management helps extend the life of your equipment and maintain water quality.
Have your water's calcium hardness analyzed in a laboratory
We offer laboratory water analysis to determine your water's calcium hardness precisely.
To do this, you must also order the basic laboratory analysis available here. This basic analysis includes a sampling kit and shipping it to our independent partner laboratory.
Another method for testing calcium hardness in water
If you do not want the hassle of sending samples to a laboratory, or if you expect to perform this test several times, you can test the combined chlorine level in your water yourself!
The eXact iDip and eXact Micro 20 photometers let you test a wide range of substances and elements present in your water. Once you have the device, order the calcium hardness test for photometers.
