Phosphate in Water - Laboratory Analysis
Laboratory Water Analysis Options
Phosphate is a chemical compound containing phosphorus, an element essential to life and to the growth of plants and aquatic organisms.
Phosphates occur naturally in the environment, but they are also introduced into water by human activities, such as agriculture, industrial discharges, household wastewater and the use of phosphate-containing detergents.
When is it important to test your water for phosphate?
It is important to test phosphate levels in water in various situations, such as monitoring water quality in waterways, lakes and ponds, managing wastewater and maintaining water filtration systems, especially in aquariums and swimming pools.
What are the risks of phosphate levels that are too high or too low?
In aquariums
A high phosphate level in water can lead to excessive algae growth, reduced dissolved oxygen, deteriorating water quality and disruption of aquatic ecosystems. Conversely, a phosphate level that is too low can limit the growth of aquatic plants and marine organisms, compromising the health of the ecosystem.
In swimming pools
In swimming pools, high phosphate levels can promote algae growth and affect water quality, while levels that are too low can cause corrosion and limescale deposits. In drinking water, high phosphate levels can have adverse health effects, particularly by promoting deposits in water pipes and contributing to health problems such as kidney stones.
Different ways to test phosphate in water
Have your water analyzed in a laboratory
This test lets you collect a sample of the water you want to test and send it to our partner laboratory so they can analyze its phosphate content.
Accurate results guaranteed!
To perform this test, you must first purchase a basic laboratory analysis before you can add this optional phosphate test. The basic analysis includes the sampling kit and shipping to the laboratory by mail.
Test your water yourself using a photometer
If you want to measure the phosphate in your water frequently without having to wait for results by mail, you can do it yourself at home with our test strip kit.
Please note, this kit must be used with a photometer, either the eXact iDip or the eXact Micro 20.
A quick and easy reading from the comfort of your home!
