Austin 22 and 30 Liter Water Softener - Complete Kit
Budget Water Softeners
Austin: the high-capacity home water softener
More resin · European production · bypass kit included
More resin, a sleek design, and European production: the Laurel model’s big brother has plenty to offer. It comes with a bypass kit that makes it easy to manage the hardness of the water it produces.
What does the included bypass do?
All OJA water softeners are equipped with a volumetric bypass that makes it easy to manage the flow between softened and untreated water.
Continuous water supply
If a problem occurs or during resin regeneration, the bypass lets water temporarily flow around the softener to keep supplying your home with water.
TH adjustment
Water that is too soft may be undesirable in some installations. Adjusting the bypass lets you maintain an average TH of 5 to 10 °f by reintroducing a small amount of untreated water.
What difference does more resin make?
Flow rate
Higher available flow rate
The greater the resin volume, the higher the flow rate the water softener can treat. Austin can therefore suit a large home and, depending on the version you choose, much greater water needs.
Capacity between regenerations
More water between regenerations
The resin must be regenerated regularly to remove the captured calcium and magnesium and replenish its sodium using the salt in the tank. A larger resin volume therefore allows longer intervals between regenerations.
Stability
More stable water hardness
When the programmed water volume for regeneration is reached, the softener generally waits until the scheduled time to start its cycle. Choosing a slightly larger system therefore provides a reserve and reduces the risk of getting hard water before regeneration.
Valve features
- Regeneration control in 4 stages
- 4-digit LED display with visual icons
- Dual ceramic disc system for service and regeneration

- Bypass included
The complete Austin kit includes
Everything you need for installation and use
Affordable, reliable valve that is easy to maintain
The FLOTECK 1600 valve was selected for its value for money, metered operation, and reliability.
- Metered operation using a turbine built into the bypass
- Measures the amount of water treated
- Minimal maintenance
Convenient salt access hatch
A lockable hatch makes it easy to refill the salt. Simply turn the valve head 90° to access the tank.
Bypass with graduated scale
The bypass lets you temporarily switch back to untreated water and mix a small amount of hard water with softened water to maintain an average TH of around 5 °f.
Straightforward installation
DIYers can install the water softener by simply connecting the water inlet and outlet with the supplied flexible hoses.
If you are unsure, you can also have our team or your plumber handle the installation.
Installation kit included
- Bypass
- Two flexible hoses and seals
- Transformer
- Drain connection tubing
Hardness test included
Check your water softener’s effectiveness yourself with the water hardness test included in the kit.
Specifications
Technical specifications of the Austin 22L and 30L water softeners
Comparison of the two capacities
| Specifications | Austin 22L | Austin 30L |
|---|---|---|
| Resin volume | 22 liters | 30 liters |
| Exchange capacity | 110 m³·°TH | 150 m³·°TH |
| Nominal flow rate | 2,200 L/h | 3,000 L/h |
| Volume of water treated before regeneration at 30 °f* | Approximately 3,670 liters | Approximately 5,000 liters |
| Water consumption per regeneration | Approximately 82 liters | Approximately 110 liters |
| Salt consumption per regeneration | Approximately 2.1 kg | Approximately 2.9 kg |
| Regeneration time | Approximately 68 minutes | Approximately 72 minutes |
| Salt storage capacity | 65 kg | 65 kg |
| Dimensions (H × W × D) | 114 × 32 × 50 cm | 114 × 32 × 50 cm |
| Shipping weight | 36 kg | 42 kg |
| Power supply | 110–220 V / 50–60 Hz | 110–220 V / 50–60 Hz |
* Volume between regenerations: this depends directly on water hardness. As a guide, with water at 30 °f, the Austin 22L can treat approximately 3,670 liters and the Austin 30L approximately 5,000 liters.
Approximate calculation: exchange capacity (m³·°TH) ÷ water hardness (°f). Example for the Austin 30L at 30 °f: 150 ÷ 30 = 5 m³, or approximately 5,000 liters.
Important: the nominal flow rate is 2,200 L/h for the Austin 22L and 3,000 L/h for the Austin 30L. The peak flow rate of approximately 5,900 L/h specified for the valve does not correspond to the water softener’s nominal treatment flow rate.
Calculate Your Needs
How do you choose the resin volume?
Size your water softener in 4 steps
1. Estimate your daily water needs
Simply take your bills for the year, add up the billed water volumes, and divide by the number of days you were at home.
Reference point: average water consumption in France is around 150 liters per day per person.
2. Determine the water volume between regenerations
For example, I live with my partner, so we use about 300 liters of water per day.
If my goal is to regenerate the resin in my Ideal every 7 days on average, that gives me 2,100 liters.
3. Measure your water hardness
Tests are available as strips or a liquid at any home improvement store.
4. Calculate your resin needs
Calculation formula
Resin volume = Water volume between regenerations × TH / 5,000

Installation & Maintenance
Installing your water softener
Our water softeners are sold with or without installation.
You have several options for installing your water softener:
1. Hire your plumber
Your local plumber can handle the installation. They can also contact us before the job if they need additional information.
2. Install your water softener yourself
Installation instructions are included with your water softener, and we have also created guides to walk you through each step.
See the steps to install your water softener yourself →Maintaining your water softener
Settings and maintenance
Maintaining our water softeners is simple. Everything is explained in our guide to maintaining your unit.
We also recommend regularly checking your water hardness (TH). The recommended range is between 5 and 10 °f.
Warranty
The standard equipment warranty is 2 years.
You can extend it to 5 years by purchasing the corresponding extended warranty or choosing to have us install your water softener.
