Salt in Water - DIY Test
Water Testers
How can you test for salt in your water?
This test strip is extremely easy to use.

Take a test strip and dip it into the water |
After about twenty seconds, compare the strip's color with the scale on the back of the container. |
The test strip result indicates both:
- conductivity: >8; 6.6; 5.3; 4.0; 2.7; 1.3; <0.2 (x1,000 µS/cm)
- salt concentration: 53; 44; 35; 28; 18; 9 or 0 ppt
Why test your water's salt concentration and conductivity?
Testing your water's salt level and conductivity offers several benefits, including:
- Water quality monitoring: Measuring salt levels and water conductivity is a way to monitor water quality, particularly in environments where salinity can vary, such as marine aquariums, seawater treatment facilities, and coastal areas.
- Aquatic ecosystem health: Water salinity and conductivity are important parameters for maintaining conditions that support aquatic life. Appropriate salt levels are necessary for marine organisms, while excessive variations can negatively affect aquatic ecosystem health.
- Aquaculture and fish farming: In aquaculture and fish farms, maintaining appropriate salinity levels is crucial to ensure the health and growth of fish and other aquatic organisms.
- Industrial process control: In some industrial processes, water conductivity can indicate water purity or the concentration of dissolved substances, which can be critical to producing quality products.
