Cyanuric Acid in Water - DIY Test
Water Testers
All about cyanuric acid in water
Sources of cyanuric acid in water
Cyanuric acid is a chlorine stabilizer rather than a disinfectant.
Because it does not break down but accumulates in water, it is highly resistant to all decontamination treatments.
Also highly effective against the effects of the sun's UV rays, cyanuric acid is used for this purpose in swimming pool water.
Standards for cyanuric acid in water
There is no standard for cyanuric acid, but the following levels can be noted
- Ideal cyanuric acid level : 20 to 30 mg/L
- Acceptable cyanuric acid level : 50 to 60 mg/L
- Cyanuric acid level > 70 mg/L = overstabilized water = Reduced disinfecting power of chlorine
Effects of cyanuric acid on the body
Cyanuric acid has very low toxicity in humans, although studies (on rats) have shown kidney damage. The human body excretes more than 98% of cyanuric acid in urine within 24 hours of ingestion.
The no-observed-adverse-effect level is 150 mg/kg/day (OECD 1999).
Test the cyanuric acid level with an iDip photometer

This reagent lets you measure the pH of your water with the IDIP photometer. It is very easy to use:
1. Open the app on your mobile phone and turn on the photometer.
2. Add water to the tester's designated cell
3. Add the reagent to the water. Wait a few seconds.
4. Read the result directly on the photometer. The result is automatically saved on your phone.
This water testing system is fast, reliable, modern, expandable, and comprehensive. It is THE most accessible system.
Test the cyanuric acid level with a Micro 20 photometer

Turn on the photometer by pressing the ON/ZERO button. The screen will show all indicators, then the selected menu, then the most recent results. |

Press the SELECT button repeatedly to choose the group: the freshwater pH test is in group 1, and the saltwater or swimming pool water pH test is in group 4. Then press the MENU button repeatedly to select the test parameter: PH. (You can find all this information in a table in the user manual supplied with the device) |

Rinse the test cell at least 3 times with the water you are going to test (to reduce the risk of cross-contamination from your previous test). Finally, fill the small cell completely with the water you want to test. |

Press the ON/ZERO button. The cursor will move across the screen before it displays 0.00PM. Tilt the device to remove a little water and leave room for the reagent. The sample is ready to be tested. |
| Add the drops | Add 8 drops of reagent. Close the cell with its small lid. |

Press the READ button. This starts a 20-second countdown. During the countdown, gently move the strip back and forth (about 1 back-and-forth movement per second). As soon as the "1" disappears from the screen, remove the strip. |

The cursor will move across the screen while the photometer prepares the test results. Note the value displayed for the parameter. This value is automatically saved in the MENU, and if you use the exact iDip app, the results will be saved in its "RESULTS" section. After the test, rinse the cell and clean it with the small brush. |
Note: shake the reagent bottle vigorously to mix it before adding the drops to the test cell.
