Zeolite, a filtering mineral
These high-quality industrial filters are highly effective at removing a wide range of contaminants, including heavy metals and organic compounds.
Zeolite is a microporous mineral composed primarily of aluminosilicates whose unique crystalline structure allows it to trap particles and ions.
Why use zeolite?
Its porous structure and ion exchange capacity allow zeolite to filter smaller particles and a wider range of contaminants than sand.
Zeolite is also lighter than sand, making it easier to handle during maintenance.
General specifications
- Timer-controlled automatic cleaning valves
- Tank made of fiberglass-reinforced polyester
- Special filters for removing suspended particles
- Filter media: wznat (natural zeolite, Clinoptilolite type, dried at 350°C, crushed and screened) with various particle sizes
- Operating pressure: 3 to 6 bars
Maintenance and backwashing
Particles trapped during filtration are removed through automatic backwashing of the filter media.
Programmable automatic backwashing
The timer-controlled valve allows you to schedule automatic backwashing based on water quality and contaminant load. Cycles can run daily, every other day, weekly, or more frequently if needed.
The backwashing process reverses the water flow through the filter to agitate the filter media and flush accumulated impurities into the drainage system. A final rinse then ensures the system is clean.
A supply pressure of 2.5 to 6 bars is sufficient to clean the filter.
Installation and sizing
Your choice of filter depends primarily on the flow rate to be treated, water quality, and the types of contaminants to be removed.
- Water flow rate to be treated
- Amount of suspended solids (SS)
- Types of particles and contaminants present
- Water turbidity
- System operating conditions
For industrial water, water with a high contaminant load, or water from a specific process, we recommend sending us a complete water analysis along with your desired flow rate so we can determine the most suitable configuration.

Zeolite filter: Frequently asked questions
Turbidity, backwashing, and operation
How can you achieve water turbidity below 1 NTU?
We recommend installing a CINTROPUR filter after the natural zeolite filter to ensure, in principle, that water turbidity is below 1 NTU. However, ideally you should provide us with a complete water analysis so we can guarantee this result.
In fact, 1 NTU generally corresponds to a concentration of suspended particles of varying sizes and quantities. These particles may include a mix of sizes, ranging from less than 1 micron to several micrometers.
The relationship between turbidity measured in NTU (nephelometric turbidity units) and the size of filtered particles in microns is neither direct nor linear. Water turbidity depends on several factors, such as the composition of suspended particles and their size distribution.
However, if a filter can filter particles as small as 1 micron, the treated water is likely to have very low turbidity, probably below 1 NTU. This is because particles of 1 micron or smaller are generally invisible to the naked eye and do not contribute significantly to turbidity measured in NTU.
Water turbidity can also be affected by factors other than particle size, such as the presence of dissolved organic matter, suspended minerals, and microorganisms. Therefore, the exact relationship between the size of filtered particles and turbidity measured in NTU can vary depending on water composition and local conditions.
What supply pressure is needed to backwash the filters?
2.5 to 6 bars is sufficient for cleaning.
How does filter backwashing work?
The backwashing process in an automatic filter involves reversing the water flow through the filter, agitating the sand bed to remove accumulated impurities. Dirt particles are flushed out of the filter through the drainage system, followed by a final rinse to ensure the system is clean. This process is essential to maintaining filter efficiency and treated water quality.
How often does backwashing take place?
Backwashing frequency in a filter equipped with a programmable valve (timer-controlled in this case) varies depending on water quality and contaminant load. Backwashing is generally scheduled to take place automatically at regular intervals, which may be daily, every other day, weekly, or more frequently if needed. It is important to monitor filter efficiency to adjust the backwashing frequency as needed.
Consumables
As its name suggests, this industrial natural zeolite filter is designed for use with natural zeolite, which acts as the filter media. This natural zeolite is available here, in a 20kg bag.
