Zeolite, a filtration mineral
Zeolite (also spelled zeolith) is a microporous mineral composed primarily of aluminosilicates whose unique crystalline structure allows it to trap particles and ions.
Its porous structure and ability to exchange ions allow zeolite to filter smaller particles and a wider range of contaminants than sand.
Finally, zeolite is lighter than sand, making it easier to handle during maintenance.
