Activated Carbon : THE Solution for Removing Free Chlorine and Organic Particles !
Free chlorine eliminates bacteria and viruses, which is why it is used throughout France to make water "safe to drink." It has another characteristic : it destroys the membranes used to filter water in an RO system. It must therefore be removed, and the best way to do this is to use activated carbon. Activated carbon also removes the organic particles responsible for tastes and odors in water. This is why we also use activated carbon at the tank outlet on some of our RO systems.
Discover our industrial range of activated carbon systems here. We import them from Spain on request, so allow around ten days for delivery.

Why Oversize Your Activated Carbon System's Capacity ?
Your choice of activated carbon filter depends on the flow rate of the downstream RO system. For example, with an RO system recovery rate of 2/3 and a flow rate of 800 l/h, the feed flow should be 1,200 l/h. The C670100 model, with a capacity of 1.50 m³/h, could theoretically work. However, as a precaution and to ensure that the water has enough contact time with the carbon to remove ALL free chlorine from the water, assuming the water has a residual free chlorine level of 1.0 mg/l (ppm), we recommend a model with a higher flow rate, such as the C74170, which provides 2.25 m³/h.
Another option is to install a system that delivers the same flow rate but has a different valve. For example, the CT06718 delivers the same flow rate as the C74170, but there are differences :
- The TM67 model (1’’) is less expensive but has a greater pressure drop.
- The TM75 model (2’’) is more expensive, but it reduces pressure loss, which can help limit the load on the pressure pump unit.
Thus, even though the TM75 is more expensive, it is often preferable because it makes it easier to maintain a pressure of 2 to 4 bar at the RO system, which is what we recommend. However, if your existing pressure pump unit can handle a greater pressure drop, the TM67 model (less expensive) may also be suitable.
