Comparing Different Water Filtration Systems
There are many different water filtration systems on the market. Whether you want to tackle limescale, purify water, or remove bacteria… The list of systems is long, and finding the right one for you can quickly become a headache. That is why we offer this brief comparison of different water filtration systems.
You can also follow our selection guide:
How do you choose your filtration system?
– Water softener

This is probably the most widely used water filtration system. And for good reason: it removes limescale ! Limescale in water is a real scourge for your household appliances, your pipes, your skin, and even your electricity bill.
Installing a water softener allows you to solve all these problems at once. Several types of water softeners are available : conventional salt-based water softeners, electromagnetic systems, SCALEX, and water softeners that also filter water !
These systems are used to remove limescale throughout your home (except SCALEX).
– Ultrafiltration

Ultrafiltration removes chlorine, bacteria and viruses, and some heavy metals from clean water. This system is primarily intended for homes that use well water.
However, it is also suitable if you want to remove chlorine and some of the heavy metals present in your water. This system sanitizes running water throughout your home without producing wastewater.
– Reverse osmosis
This is the most effective filtration method: pure water comes out of the system. How is water purified to such a high degree ?
First, the water passes through a series of pre-filters that will remove large particles (sand, dust…) as well as chlorine, which is harmful to the membrane. Next, the water passes through a reverse osmosis membrane that separates it into 2 streams : one containing all the waste and another that is pure.
However, this method produces a lot of wastewater: between 1 and 3 liters discharged for every 1 liter produced, depending on the model. That is why our RO systems are installed at a specific water supply point rather than serving the entire home. As a result, you only use RO water for drinking and cooking. This way, you do not multiply your water bill and consumption by 2 or 3 while still enjoying pure water for your daily consumption.
