How to Choose a Reverse Osmosis System
To be in perfect health, you need to drink good-quality water. Filtration systems are available for this purpose, but there are so many options: which should you choose? A reverse osmosis system makes it easy to find what you need. This system can remove all bacteria, pesticides, and other particles that compromise the purity of drinking water. Many models are available, but which RO system should you ultimately choose?
In this article, we explain the criteria to consider when choosing the right RO system.
The Type of RO System
To choose the type of RO system that best suits your needs, first consider the space you have available. If space beneath your sink is limited, make sure the system you choose will fit easily. Otherwise, you will have to choose a more compact RO system, such as our direct-flow range. In the unusual event that you have no space beneath your sink, you can still order an extension kit from us.
RO System Efficiency

Depending on your needs, your RO system may have a higher or lower level of efficiency. Available models offer efficiency ranging from 80 to 99 % for the best-performing systems. To choose the most powerful ones, focus on those with fine filters. This makes it easier to filter out the tiniest particles. Also, keep in mind that efficiency is closely linked to the price of the system. In other words, the more expensive the system, the better it filters.
To avoid making the wrong choice, it is best to avoid systems with efficiency below 85 %. Do not risk having poorly treated water containing solid particles. Take your time and study the different specifications of the available systems before choosing your RO system. At josmose.fr, we do not offer systems with 80 % efficiency. We test our systems to offer you the best possible filtration quality.
The Volume of Water Treated Daily

This is an extremely important criterion that should guide your purchase of an RO system. It is closely linked to how satisfied you will be with your system. It is not uncommon to find RO systems capable of producing 2,000 liters of water/day. Others, meanwhile, struggle to reach 200 liters. In other words, you will need to assess your needs before choosing a water volume. For direct-flow models, it is important to convert the daily output to a per-minute flow rate to get an idea of the RO system's real-time flow rate.
For example, a 300 GPD RO system will produce : 300 x 3.8 = 1,140 L/j Therefore 1,140 / (24 x 60) = 0.8 L/mn
The Volume of Drain Water

This is a feature shared by all commercially available RO systems. During treatment, water containing harmful substances is discharged into the drain. An RO system therefore wastes some water, and the amount varies from one model to another.
Some discharge only one liter of water for every liter of purified water, which is a good average. Other systems, however, can discharge two to four times as much water as they produce.
Before checking out and completing your RO system purchase, you should look into your water pressure. This is very important if you choose the Basicos model because it is closely linked to the quality of the water produced. Remember that the higher the inlet pressure, the less water the RO system will discharge. To find out the water pressure supplied by your network, ask a specialist or your plumber.
Remember that the pressure of the water entering the reverse osmosis system is also a criterion to consider when making your choice. If this pressure is insufficient (at least 3.5 bar), you will need to get an RO system equipped with a pump.
Additional Options

If you are wondering which RO system to choose, some manufacturers make it easier for you to get RO water. We equip our models with the lowest flow rates with a tank. You can therefore draw pure water without using your RO system's main valve, an option whose main advantage is that it saves you time.
What Should You Remember?
The RO system is a filtration device that has firmly become part of everyday life. But choosing the right system for your lifestyle can be a real headache given the wide range of models available. To make the best choice, simply focus on a few essential criteria. For example, choose the type of system based on the space you have available.
Beyond this criterion, you should also consider efficiency and the volume of water treated. These factors are very important for getting good performance from your system. Remember to ask about water pressure and drain water volume to determine whether it is the system you really need. Of course, price is another criterion that can help you decide between two models. Here too, you will find systems for every budget depending on the brands you choose.
