Inside Your Brain: There Is Water (and Plenty of It)!
When you think about the body and water, the urinary system and kidneys often come to mind. But remember that water is necessary for your entire body to function properly. Your brain is more than 75 % water, and staying properly hydrated on a regular basis helps it function better. That is why J’osmose has decided to shed some light today on your brain's water needs.
As soon as you wake up, remember to drink a glass of water. After a good night's sleep, your brain cells need to recharge :-). Many of us sweat while sleeping, and sweating causes fluid loss that needs to be replenished. In addition, while we sleep, we exhale water with every deep breath. So, starting tomorrow, let's get the day off to a good start and make that morning glass of water a habit. It is also ideal for whetting your appetite ;-).
Staying hydrated regularly throughout the day helps improve concentration. You may not feel the effects of dehydration right away, yet your brain is one of the first organs to suffer. To avoid reduced attention and headaches, remembering to take a few sips every half hour can be a lifesaver. Better safe than sorry, as the saying goes…
Proper hydration also helps regulate your brain's temperature and eliminate toxins. Maintaining a regular water intake therefore creates the balance needed for your health and well-being. You may have already noticed unusual fatigue or restless behavior in young children during an episode of dehydration… Remember that a lack of water can affect us too. Even a slight imbalance can make it difficult to concentrate, remember information, and think.
Sometimes, drinking a glass of water before bed may not seem like such a good idea… Especially because it means some of us have to get up during the night to urinate. Yet water helps improve blood flow to the brain, creating a feeling of well-being and calm. Even at night, your body eliminates waste and toxins, and that is fundamental to your cellular and neurological balance!
Now that you know a little more about how water affects your brain and cognitive abilities, you are sure to want to adopt good everyday habits! There is no need to drink liters and liters. Instead, focus on regular hydration by always keeping a reusable water bottle within reach ;-).
